Today the Queensland Police Service (QPS) has launched a one-month SMS and email trial targeting vehicles involved in a suspected fuel drive-off.
The message will prompt owners of vehicles involved in fuel drive-offs to return to the station to pay for the fuel which will reduce the need for Police intervention.
The QPS will identify itself in messages issued, which will also contain the registration number of the vehicle involved, the date and time of the incident and a prompt to contact the service station. Text messages will not include attachments or hyperlinks.
The message will give owners of vehicles involved in fuel drive-offs the benefit of the doubt by asking them to return to the fuel station to resolve the matter.
Acting Superintendent Sharee Cumming, Organisational Capability Command, said people leaving service stations and failing to pay for fuel was a significant concern for the QPS.

Grievous bodily harm, Surfers Paradise
Detectives have charged a man with grievous bodily harm following an incident at Surfers Paradise in the early hours of this morning.
Around 1am, a 29-year-old Tugun man was sitting with friends on a bench at Orchid Avenue, when it will be alleged two men approached the group and took some of their food.
It will be further alleged that an altercation ensued, with one of the men punching a 29-year-old man causing him to lose consciousness and fall, striking the back of his head on the ground.
The men then allegedly fled on foot and witnesses contacted police.
The 29-year-old victim sustained head injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene, before being transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
Police arrested a 27-year-old man nearby who has now been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

Update – Pedestrian incident, Glasshouse Mountains
A man has died in hospital following a pedestrian incident in Glasshouse Mountains on September 21.
At 11.15am, a pedestrian was on Old Gympie Road when he was struck by a car travelling in the same direction.
The 23-year-old man was thrown into a gully and sustained critical injuries. He was airlifted to hospital where sadly he died this afternoon.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.

Update – Wounding, Yarrabilba
Police have charged an 18-year-old man over an incident in Yarrabilba last week where a 33-year-old man received a stab wound.
It is alleged around 8:30pm on September 23 a man and woman were driving in their car and were allegedly followed by unknown people in a white Holden Commodore.
Upon turning into Darlington Drive, two men have allegedly exited the Commodore armed with baseball bats.
It is alleged one of the men has stabbed a 33-year-old man through the passenger window.
He was transported to the Princess Alexandra hospital for non-life-threatening treatment.
An 18-year-old man from Munruben has been charged with wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm and enter premises with intent to commit an indicatable offence.
He is due to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on October 30, 2019.
Investigations are ongoing.

Update 3: Homicide investigation, Maroochydore
Detectives investigating the death of 53-year-old David Collin in Maroochydore on September 9 have located another potential key witness in his murder case they wish to identify.
Mr Collin was attacked as he slept in his sleeping bag at the rear of a community centre on Millwell Road East and located deceased the next morning at 8.30am.
The person responsible for his death remains unknown.
Investigators are seeking public assistance to identify a person, possibly female, seen on CCTV coming from the southern direction of Evans Street before reaching the intersection and crossing School Road.
The person may have been walking home, possibly from work, and can be witnessed turning around a number of times as though they have seen or heard something on Sunday night, September 8.
It follows an appeal last week to identify a male on pushbike seen on the same CCTV in the Evans Street, Millwell Road East intersection around 10:30pm.

Protest charges, Brisbane
Four people have been charged for alleged protest activity on Victoria Bridge this morning.
Around 7:45am, it will be alleged a woman attached herself to a large tripod causing a closure of the bridge for about an hour.
Police will allege the woman initially refused to lower herself from the structure.
She was taken into custody after lowering herself when specialist officers began dismantling the tripod.
The 22-year-old Bardon woman was charged with one count each of commit public nuisance, pedestrian causing an obstruction and obstructing a police officer.
A 28-year-old Brisbane man was also charged with one count of pedestrian causing an obstruction.
They are scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 16.
A 20-year-old NSW man and 22-year-old NSW woman have been charged with one count each of pedestrian causing a traffic hazard or obstruction by moving into path of a driver.
They are due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 21.

Firearm Seizure, Gold Coast
Yesterday, officers from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad executed a search warrant at a Hope Island address, locating and seizing a handgun, knuckledusters and a small quantity of a restricted drug namely Melanotan.
Police arrested a 29-year-old male for unlawfully possessing weapons, possessing a restricted drug and contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.
The offender will appear in Southport Magistrate Court today.
“This seizure highlights the ongoing investigations our officers continually undertake to make the local community a safer place,” Detective Inspector Craig McGrath said.

Fatal traffic crash, Cooktown
A man has died in a single vehicle crash south of Lakeland.
The man was driving from Cooktown to Cairns in the early hours of Thursday morning, September 26.
About 2km south of the Byrestown Range rest area the vehicle has left the road on a bend and gone into a gully.
Preliminary investigations indicate the 47-year-old Cooktown man died as a result of injuries sustained. He was located yesterday around 2pm.
Investigations are continuing.
Attempted robbery with violence, North Ipswich
Police have charged two people after an attempted robbery with violence in North Ipswich this afternoon.
At around 2.50pm a woman was sitting in her car in the carpark of a shopping centre on The Terrace when, it will be alleged, a man and a woman approached the vehicle and demanded her keys.
Police will further allege when the woman tried to escape she was assaulted.
A member of the public came to the woman’s aid, causing the pair to flee the scene on foot.
The 25-year-old woman was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment of a laceration to her head.
Following investigations police located a man and woman in Leichhardt around 4:45pm this afternoon.
An 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old Raceview woman have both been charged with one count of attempted robbery with violence.

Update 2: Armed robbery, Burleigh Waters
Police have charged two people following investigations into the armed robbery of a bank at Burleigh Waters on September 26.
Around 3pm, police were notified of an armed robbery at a bank, located in a shopping complex on West Burleigh Road.
It will be alleged a man and a woman attended the front counter, produced what appeared to be firearms and demanded money.
The attendant compiled before the pair allegedly fled the scene with a sum of cash.
A man and a woman were taken into custody by police on Elizabeth Avenue in Broadbeach this morning.
A 30-year-old Southport man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery, possessing dangerous drugs (metheylamphetamine) and possessing utensils or pipes that have been used.
A 22-year-old Southport woman has been charged with one count of armed robbery.
They are both due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on September 30.
