Fatal traffic crash, Townsville

A 62-year-old Cosgrove woman has died after a two vehicle traffic crash, at Mount Louisa this morning.
Initial investigations indicate that around 7.45 am the woman was driving a 2017 Subaru south into Townsville on Woolcock Street, when her car struck a 2012 Volkswagen Amarok, which had made a right hand turn out of Woolcock Street into Weston Street.
As a result the woman died at the scene. The 19-year-old male driver of the Amarok was taken to hospital for observation.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage to contact police.
Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the incident.

Police close Operation Romeo Cradle, Logan

The Major and Organised Crime Squad-Logan have closed Operation Romeo Cradle targeting members of a local group known as the 36 crew.
Operation Romeo Cradle commenced in May 2019 focusing on drug and firearms offences allegedly being committed by this group.
The operational closure on Friday involved detectives and Logan District Police executing search warrants on four properties in the Logan area. During the operation police seized firearms , a taser device, cannabis, buprenorphine and a large sum of cash.
Seven people were charged on 34 offences, including two men for attempting to pervert the course of justice. The two men were due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
“Romeo Cradle was a targeted and intelligence-led operation which resulted in significant charges and the seizure of illicit firearms and drugs.
“We will continue to focus on disrupting the illegal activities of these groups to prevent crime and make our community safer,” Acting Detective Senior Sergeant

Update 3: Renewed appeal following fatal hit and run, Callemondah

Investigators are renewing their appeal for witnesses to a fatal traffic crash which occurred at Callemondah on Sunday, August 25.
At 7.00pm a passing motorist located a man lying in the middle of Red Rover Road.
Police arrived to find a man with multiple serious injuries to his head, torso and limbs.
It is believed the man may have been walking along the road and was struck by a passing vehicle before being pronounced deceased at the scene.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for anyone who was travelling along Red Rover Road between 6.40pm and 7.10pm on Sunday, August 25 to contact police.
Any piece of information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may assist police in their investigations.

Fire investigation, Ormeau

Police have located two girls, following an alleged deliberately-lit fire in bushland at Ormeau this morning.
Around 10.30am, emergency services were called to an estate on the corner Jondaryan Street and Rockwood Drive with reports that a fire in bushland was nearing houses.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended and quickly extinguished the fire.
Police located two 14-year-old girls at the scene, who are currently assisting investigators with their enquiries.
With Queensland continuing to experience extreme and dangerous fire conditions throughout the state with devastating bushfire being fought in several locations, police are reminding the public of the dangers of lighting fires or committing acts of arson.

Arson, Woodridge

Police have located a 12-year-old boy, following investigations into an alleged deliberately-lit fire which destroyed bushland and a section of a Logan City Council storage facility at Woodridge yesterday evening.
It will be alleged that around 5pm, a group of juveniles were in bushland off Kingston Road, behind the Woodridge Skate Park, when one boy deliberately-lit a fire.
The fire quickly spread to the nearby storage facility, destroying a fence, two shipping containers and their contents.
Emergency Services attended the scene and the fire was extinguished.
Following subsequent investigations, police located a 12-year-old Slacks Creek boy who will now be dealt with under provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Taskforce Overcross established to prevent, disrupt and investigate Queensland fires

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has established a task force to prevent, disrupt and investigate suspicious fires across Queensland.
Taskforce Overcross incorporates investigative, intelligence and other specialist resources as required.
Commissioner Katarina Carroll said as part of the task force, the QPS State Crime Command would coordinate all investigations into suspicious fires around the state.
“Taskforce Overcross will be proactive in working to prevent deliberately or recklessly lit fires.
“Some of the fires could be down to carelessness or a misunderstanding of conditions. However, it appears other fires have been deliberately lit with the intention of causing damage or worse.
“Arson is a very serious offence that can lead to life imprisonment and police will be relentless in investigating any suspicious fires.
“The community is asked to work with authorities to prevent fires. In these dangerous conditions please do not use equipment which could risk sparking a fire.
“Anyone who either inadvertently or deliberately starts a fire

Update: Homicide investigation, Highland Park

Police have released a picture of a blanket as part of their homicide investigation into the death of a 27-year-old woman at Highland Park on Sunday night.
Around 8.30pm, police were called to a residence on Renfrew Drive following reports of a woman with a gunshot wound.
A 27-year-old Labrador woman was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where she died a short time later.
A crime scene was established at the address where a 27-year-old man, who was a resident, returned around 1am on Monday and was taken into custody.
The 27-year-old Highland Park man was wearing a blanket (pictured) at the time, which investigators believe may have been stolen from a nearby residence.
Police are now appealing to anyone who believes they may be the owner of the blanket to come forward.
Police also continue their appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious on Renfrew Drive and Kincaid Drive or who has CCTV

Traffic investigation, Brisbane

Police are investigating the circumstances of a traffic incident in Brisbane on August 8.
Just after 7pm, a truck was travelling through the city when it collided with a 2014 Honda City sedan on Queen Street.
The truck failed to stop following the collision.
The 36-year-old man who was driving the sedan sustained minor injuries.
Investigators are appealing to the driver of the truck, or anyone who may be able to identify the truck or have dash cam footage, to contact police.

Suspicious death investigation, Ipswich

Detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a child in Ipswich earlier this year.
Police were called to a Sonter Street address on June 21 after emergency services workers located the body of a 9-month-old boy inside the premises.
A crime scene was established, and forensic examinations conducted over a number of days.
As a result, an investigation centre was commenced at Yamanto Police Station with detectives from Ipswich Child Protection Unit and State Crime Command’s Child Trauma Unit
The investigation is on-going and police are appealing for anyone with information that may assist to contact police.
