Armed robbery, Stones Corner

Investigations are continuing into the armed robbery of a store at Stones Corner this afternoon.
Around 2.30pm a man armed with a knife entered the Old Cleveland Road business and threatened an employee.
He demanded cash and the staff member complied.
The man left the store with a sum of money stolen from the cash register.
No one was injured during the incident.

Unlawful wounding, Mudgeeraba

Investigations are underway after a man sustained a stab wound at this afternoon.
Shortly before 3pm the man was at the back of a Swan Lane shopping centre when he was approached by an unknown man and stabbed.
He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.
Two crime scenes have been established with a vehicle believed to have been involved located in Franklin Drive.
A man and woman are assisting police with their inquiries.
Police are looking to speak with a third man seen leaving the area shortly after the incident.
Investigations are continuing.

Update: Death investigation, Holland Park West

Detectives are appealing for public assistance as they continue to investigate the death of a 30-year-old man at Holland Park West last night.
Police were called to the location outside C.B. Mott Park on Logan Road around 11.00pm after a member of the public located the vehicle.
Joshua Thorne (pictured) was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Mr Thorne was believed to be living in the South Brisbane area and police are seeking public assistance to identify his recent movements and where he was staying.
Investigators are also appealing for anyone who may have seen a white 2008 Holden Commodore sedan with Queensland registration 642-KWR (pictured) in the Holland Park West area last night, or who may have dash cam vision from Logan Road to contact police.

Serious traffic crash, Southport

Police are investigating a serious traffic crash at Southport which followed a burglary at Maudsland this morning.
It will be alleged that around 9.00am, a group of people forced entry to a residence on Howard Hughes Court at Maudsland.
Police attended the address, where three males allegedly jumped into a Nissan Pulsar bearing stolen registration plates and evaded officers.
Police tracked the vehicle to Kopps Road, Oxenford, where the males allegedly dumped the car and fled into nearby bushland neighbouring a theme park.
It will be further alleged two of the males then stole a Toyota Hilux utility parked at the theme park, while an 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
Police then tracked the stolen utility to Southport, where it was allegedly driven dangerously before rolling at the intersection of Queen and Nerang streets around 9.30am.
A 17-year-old boy was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable

New Assistant Commissioners announced

Commissioner Katarina Carroll today announced the appointment of two new assistant commissioners to the Queensland Police Service (QPS).
Assistant Commissioner Charysse Pond has been appointed to lead the People Capability Command.
Assistant Commissioner Cameron Harsley will lead the Organisational Capability Command.
Commissioner Carroll congratulated both officers on their promotions from the rank of chief superintendent.
“Both officers have made outstanding contributions to the QPS and I look forward to working with them in their new roles,” Commissioner Carroll said.
Assistant Commissioner Pond will take over from Assistant Commissioner Alistair Dawson who is performing the role of Inspector-General Emergency Management.
Assistant Commissioner Harsley will replace Assistant Commissioner Shane Chelepy who is being reassigned to Operations Support Command.
This reassignment will replace Assistant Commissioner Allan McCarthy who will soon retire.
Commissioner Carroll has also announced the existing deputy commissioners will swap roles from next week.
Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski will take over the Strategy, Policy and Performance portfolio and Deputy Commissioner

Update: Wounding, Pimpama

Police have charged a man over the alleged wounding of another man at Pimpama on Wednesday night.
It will be alleged that around 7.40pm, a 19-year-old Willow Vale man was sitting in his car at Bull Road when he was approached by a man known to him.
The man then allegedly stabbed him in the torso through the open car window.
The injured man drove to Commercial Street at Upper Coomera where he contacted emergency services.
He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following investigations, detectives executed a search warrant on an address at Winchester Crescent, Pimpama, yesterday where they arrested a 25-year-old Pimpama man.
He has now been charged with one count each of wounding, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils and possessing property suspected of having been acquired in relation to a drug offence.
He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court

Police were called to the location outside C.B. Mott Park on Logan Road around 11.00pm after a member of the public located the vehicle.
A 30-year-old Urangan man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police have established a crime scene and investigations are underway to establish the cause of death.

Police on hand to keep kids safe at the Ekka

Free identification wristbands that help reunite lost children with their parents are once again available at the Ekka, Police Minister Mark Ryan announced yesterday.
The wristbands which help to reunite lost children with their parents contributed to returning almost 100 children at the 2018 event.

Officers are expecting many visitors to the Ekka Police Station this year after distributing approximately 15,000 wristbands throughout last year’s Ekka.
The wristbands have a space for parents and carers to write their contact details on them prior to securing the band to the wearer’s wrist.
Officers will be handing out the wristbands everyday of the show
In addition to obtaining a wristband on the day, police encourage parents to seriously discuss being safe at the show with their children.
Inspector Garry Watts of the Fortitude Valley Patrol Group suggested keeping records of what your child is wearing amongst his safety tips.

Armed robbery, Coorparoo

Investigations are continuing into the armed robbery of a liquor store at Coorparoo yesterday (Thursday, August 8).
Around 12.15pm a man approached a 41-year-old employee at the business on Old Cleveland Road armed with a knife.
He pointed the knife at the woman before stealing a quantity of cash from the register.
The man then fled the store and is described as Caucasian, aged between 30 and 40, with a solid build and wearing a black cap, grey hooded jumper and dark shorts.
No one was injured during the incident.
Anyone with further information is urged to contact police.

Officer injured Labrador

A police officer has been injured after attempting to stop a vehicle involved in a petrol drive off at Labrador overnight.
Around 11.15pm a silver Toyota Aurion with stolen Queensland registration plates 387 ZDO attempted to do a petrol drive off at a Frank Street service station. The attendant exited the store and ran towards the vehicle to prevent it driving off.
Police on patrol were travelling north along Frank Street when they observed the commotion causing them to pull into the service station.
A 28-year-old male Constable exited the police vehicle and was walking past the police car’s bonnet when the offending vehicle accelerated pinning him between the police car and the Toyota Aurion.
The driver of the Toyota Aurion then reversed the vehicle and exited the service station driving west along Robert Street.
This vehicle was then involved in a collision with a parked car on Corrine Street where the driver has
