Heavy vehicle intercept, Hemmant

A routine traffic intercept by officers from the Road Policing Task Force has stopped a semi-trailer in its tracks.
Police intercepted the unregistered prime mover on Lytton Road at Hemmant on Wednesday and discovered the semi-trailer attached to also be unregistered.
An inspection of the vehicle was carried out including a download of the truck’s computer with officers finding the driver’s side seat belt not operable and passenger side seat belt not attached.
As a result, the vehicle was taken to a Department of Transport and Main Roads Inspection Centre where it failed an inspection.
The truck and trailer were taken off the road until all defects are repaired and reinspected by authorities.
A 45-year-old Jindalee man has been issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice for use of unregistered short combination prime mover with three or more axles.

Dangerous driving, Sunshine Coast

Two men allegedly linked to a string of property offences have been arrested after allegedly ramming a number of vehicles in a stolen car at the Sunshine Coast this morning.
It will be alleged the white Mitsubishi Triton and trailer were stolen from Belli Park on July 25 before being involved in a hit and run northbound on the Bruce Highway around 8am.
The Triton collided with a Nissan Pathfinder before allegedly attempting to force the vehicle, containing a family of five, off the road.
The stolen ute then continued to travel at speed along the Bruce Highway while the Pathfinder followed, before both vehicles pulled over and the drivers exited.
The male driver of the Triton then allegedly threatened the other male motorist before hopping back in the stolen vehicle and ramming the Pathfinder while the other passengers, including children, were still inside.

Body worn camera numbers increased

Commissioner Katarina Carroll was today joined by Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP, to announce a new contract arrangement that will mean all uniformed first responder officers will have access to use body worn cameras.
The contract arrangements will also deliver a significant improvement in body worn camera technology.
The new contract will increase the Queensland Police Service body worn camera fleet to 7,700 devices. An increase from the initial 2100 supplied devices that previously comprised the body worn camera fleet.
The Queensland Police Service was the first policing agency in the Asia Pacific to implement a body worn camera regime. The early adoption of technology plays a vital role in the way police operate on a daily basis.

Dangerous driving and burglary charges, North Brisbane

Police have charged two teenagers after an alleged stolen vehicle was located at Albany Creek this morning (July 26).
Police will allege a blue sedan was stolen during a break-in of a Bertha Street, Kalinga home in the early hours of Thursday morning, July 25.
An Advanx Street, Kenmore Hills home was allegedly broken into sometime between 8am and 6pm Thursday with property including computer tablets and jewellery stolen.
The stolen blue sedan was sighted by police just after midnight today on Samford Road, Enoggera.
A tyre deflation device (TDD) was successfully deployed with one tyre deflating. The vehicle continued travelling towards Albany Creek, where a second TDD was deployed deflating the remaining tyres.
The vehicle continued north along Keong Road where it crashed into a guard rail at the intersection with Albany Creek Road.
Two teenagers, a male and female, fled the vehicle and were located a short time later by police.

Update: Trespass charges, Bowen

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has reviewed the circumstances surrounding the arrests of five people at a port facility near Bowen on Monday.
As a result, the QPS will withdraw all charges against a 28-year-old Victorian man and four male French nationals, aged 29, 30, 32 and 39, when the matters are brought before Bowen Magistrates Court again on July 30.
The charges against two Victorian women, aged 20 and 22, will still proceed.
The decision to withdraw charges follows careful consideration of the circumstances including QPS policies and procedures.
Representatives for the five people have been notified of the QPS decision this afternoon.

‘Move over, slow down’ billboard launched at QPS Academy

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has shown its support for the road safety campaign, ‘move over, slow down’ by launching billboards at the QPS Academy, Oxley.
‘Move over, slow down’ is a targeted social media and outdoor road safety campaign reminding drivers to behave safely when passing roadside emergency responders and their vehicles.
Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating from Road Policing Command (RPC) was joined by RPC officers and representatives from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and RACQ to launch the ‘move over, slow down’ billboards at Oxley.
Assistant Commissioner Keating said all emergency response vehicles using lights and sirens are responding to an emergency.
“The ‘move over, slow down’ campaign reminds motorists to drive safely, especially when passing emergency services vehicles,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“You could save a strangers life.”

Update – Attempted robbery, Inala

A man has been charged over the alleged attempted robbery of an Inala service station last month.
It will be alleged the 35-year-old Woodridge man walked into the Freeman Road business armed with a crowbar shortly after 12.30am on Saturday, June 22.
He is expected to appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court today charged with one count of attempted robbery.

Cyclist injured, Camp Mountain

Police are investigating after a cyclist was found injured at Camp Mountain this afternoon.
Around 1pm, a 65-year-old man was located on Camp Mountain Road near the intersection of McLean Road South with a head injury and may have suffered a medical episode.
He was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.
Investigators are urging anyone in the area with dashcam footage to contact police.

Update – Assault, Broadbeach

Police have charged a 22-year-old man this morning after a bus driver was allegedly punched in the face following a verbal argument with a pedestrian in Broadbeach on July 21, 2019.
It will be alleged a bus driver was punched three times to the face just before 8pm after a pedestrian approached the bus driver’s window and started to yell at him on Hooker Boulevard in Broadbeach.
The 54-year-old bus driver received bruising to the right side of his head and eye area as well as a bloodied nose. He was treated at the scene.
A 22-year-old man from Mermaid Beach has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on August 7, 2019.

QPS trains Human Rights Champions

On Tuesday July 2, Assistant Commissioner Sharon Cowden hosted a training day for more than 70 QPS members to become Human Rights champions.

With phase one of the Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld) coming into affect on July 1, it was an opportune time for Queensland Police Service (QPS) members from various commands, groups and regions, to continue their education on Human Rights legislation.
QPS members at the presentation were fortunate to hear from a number of key stakeholders including two Victoria Police representatives who shared the experience their department had with human rights legislation.
Deputy Commissioner Neroli Holmes from the Queensland Human Rights Commission (formerly the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland) took the opportunity to speak about the rights contained within the Human Rights Act, and the role the QHRC will play in promoting human rights culture within Queensland, as well
