Sudden death, Cooloola Cove

Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a 44-year-old man at Cooloola Cove.
Officers from Tin Can Bay attended an address on Atlantis Avenue yesterday (May 6) around 2.30pm to conduct a welfare check.
A man, believed to have lived at the residence, was located deceased inside. It is possible he had been there a number of weeks.
The cause of the man’s death is still to be determined, and police are working to establish the surrounding circumstances.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of Atlantis Avenue over the past month, or have any further information relating to the matter to come forward.

Hit and run incident, Kallangur

Police are appealing for witnesses following a hit and run crash at Kallangur last night.
Just before midnight, a woman was located lying on the footpath at the corner of Glass House Circuit and Mowbray Court with severe facial injuries.
Paramedics rendered first aid to the 18-year-old woman before she was transported to hospital.
Investigations suggest the woman had been hit by a silver or grey sedan which was last seen travelling along Glass House Circuit just before the woman was located.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen a car driving suspiciously in the vicinity of Glass House Circuit between 11pm and midnight to come forward.

Police and Care Army saving lives during COVID-19

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has praised the work of Queensland’s Care Army and the Queensland Police Service in coming to the aid of an 80-year-old woman who broke her hip and was unable to move in her home for more than four days.
Erika Freingruber, who lives alone in her Beaudesert house and has no immediate family, had registered for assistance with the Care Army during COVID-19. A member of the Care Army team raised concerns with Beaudesert police on April 23 after not being able to contact her.
The officers attended Erika’s address and could hear her faintly calling out for help.
They forced entry to the residence and located her incapacitated on the floor. Police comforted Erika and administered fluids until paramedics arrived.
Erika had broken her hip after falling over several days earlier and was unable to get assistance.

Fatal traffic crash, Rockhampton area

A truck driver has died after a single vehicle crash south of Rockhampton overnight.
Preliminary investigations indicate around 2am a semi-trailer was headed north on the Bruce Highway at Bajool. As the truck crossed the Bobs Creek Bridge it left the roadway and fell into the creek below.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck, was transported the Rockhampton Hospital where he died this morning.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.

Update – Serious assault, East Mackay

Detectives have charged a man following investigations into the assault of a 52-year-old man in East Mackay on March 14.
At 6am, the man was at his Kippen Street house when he heard a loud bang from the front of his residence.
Police will allege as he walked outside, he saw a man open the driver’s door of his Toyota Hilux which was parked on the road.
A verbal altercation occurred before the 52-year-old man was struck by what is believed to be a steel bar to the right side of his head.
He man was transported to Mackay Base Hospital and then to Townsville Hospital for treatment to serious head injuries.
A 23-year-old South Mackay man has been charged with grievous bodily harm, armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, break and enter and two counts of stealing.
He will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on July 21.

Update: Fraud investigation, Line Dancing Events

Two men have been charged after a series of fraud complaints  relating to line dancing events.
As a result of information from a member of the public through Crime Stoppers, police attended a Kings Beach unit yesterday and located two men.
It will be alleged the men committed fraud offences by organising holidays via a line dancing travel company.
The holidays included group trips overseas and domestically including line dancing festivals, balls and cruises. After money was paid, the holiday was cancelled with no refunds provided.
Police initially received 75 complaints for a fraud value of $144, 000 from members of the public across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.
A further 127 complaints with a fraud value of $178,000 were received after an appeal for information in April 2019. Police believe there may be more scam victims and continue to appeal for any victims to contact police.

Armed man charged, Wamuran

Police have charged a man following a series of alleged offences today in Wamuran.
Around 10am police attempted to intercept an alleged stolen vehicle at Del Rossa Road in Caboolture.
The vehicle then allegedly evaded police travelling west on D’Aguilar Highway towards Woodford where the driver produced a firearm and pointed it through the window at police.
It will be further alleged, the driver then drove the vehicle off-road into the forestry, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Around 2.30pm, the man was located at a near-by rural property and taken into custody.
A 30-year-old man from Caboolture South was charged with evading police, driving without a licence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a short firearm in public and possessing explosive and three counts of serious assault of a police officer while armed with a weapon. Update: Serious traffic crash, Coopers Plains

Police have released an image of a motorbike rider who may be able to assist after a serious traffic crash at Coopers Plains yesterday evening.
Just before 6pm a blue Nissan 200SX was travelling west along Boundary Road, when the driver lost control of the car and collided with a power pole.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are concerned for the motorcyclist’s welfare who was seen in the area around the same time and are urging them to contact police.
The 37-year-old driver of the 200SX from Rochedale South is recovering from critical injuries in the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Again, if anyone has any further vision which may assist in the investigation, they too are encouraged to come forward.
Investigations are continuing.

Update – Serious assault, Burbank

Police have charged a man following investigations into a dispute between two drivers which resulted in a 20-year-old man being seriously assaulted.
At 1.40pm on April 29, the man and his female passenger were in his Toyota Hilux utility, driving behind a grey Prado allegedly bearing false plates on Valley Way at Mount Cotton.
Both vehicles drove a short distance before they pulled over to the side of the road at Burbank.
Police will allege the driver of the Prado exited his vehicle and walked over to the utility driver and punched him in the face. The impact broke the man’s jaw in two places.
The Prado driver then allegedly came back to the utility and kicked the driver’s door shut, causing a large dent in the vehicle.
A 25-year-old Russell Island man has been charged with grievous bodily harm, wilful damage and unlicensed driving.
He will appear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court tomorrow (May 7).
