Armed robbery charges, Sunshine Coast

Police have charged two men following two alleged armed robberies in the Sunshine Coast.
It will be alleged just before 9pm on September 30, a man entered a coffee shop at Park Place in Caloundra armed with a tomahawk. He threatened a staff member, demanding they handover cash from the till. The employee complied, and the man fled with a sum of cash.
It will be further alleged at 12.20pm on October 1 two men entered a Beerburrum Road liquor outlet at Aroona and threatened a female staff member with a tomahawk demanding cash. The staff member complied, and the men fled the store with a sum of cash.
A 34-year-old Currimundi man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, and one count each of enter premises, fraud and stealing.
A 28-year-old Moffat Beach man has been charged with one count of armed robbery.
Both men will appear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today,

Traffic crash, Gumlu

Police are investigating a crash between a truck and a van north of Bowen this morning.
Preliminary investigations indicate at 6.45am both vehicles were travelling south on the Bruce Highway. The van began to turn right into Tondara Road when it was struck by the truck.
Two passengers of the van were airlifted to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition. The driver and six other passengers were transported to Townsville with non-life-threatening injuries.
The truck driver was not physically injured.
It is believed the injured people are international travellers, mostly aged in their 20s, on their way to work.
The Bruce Highway re-opened at 10am.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.

Coominya Greyhound racing participants charged with drug offences

Two greyhound racing participants and another person who is not a licensee have been charged with 13 drug related offences after Queensland Racing Crime Squad detectives and the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Integrity Investigations Team (IIT) executed a search warrant at a Coominya property yesterday.
Two women aged 53 and 45 and a 66 year-old man have been charged with offences including allegedly supplying dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of restricted drugs and other drug offences.
One of the greyhound racing participants was charged in relation to administering the dangerous drug diazepam to a racing greyhound.
QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett said the administration of drugs that are only available on prescription for humans is reckless and potentially dangerous.

Unlawful wounding – Wavebreak Island

A 49-year-old man is assisting police with their investigations after another man received a number of puncture wounds and a woman was assaulted at Wavebreak Island on the Gold Coast last night.
Around 9.35pm a 30-year-old man was involved in a dispute on a vessel in the Broadwater. A 53-year-old woman went to his aid and was punched to the face.
The man fled the scene.
Police conducted a search of the area and located a man on the north side of Wavebreak Island.
The injured man was transported to hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.
The woman did not require medical treatment.
Investigations are continuing.

Armed robbery charge, Cairns North

Detectives have charged a woman following an alleged armed robbery in Cairns North overnight.
At around 10:00pm an 18-year-old woman was walking to her car on Lake Street when she was confronted by another woman who had allegedly stolen a number of items from her car.
When the car owner confronted the woman she was allegedly threatened with a machete.
The car owner returned to her vehicle and called police.
Officers responded and a woman was located nearby and taken into custody without incident.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
A 35-year-old Parramatta Park woman has been charged with armed robbery and attempted enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
She is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Armed robbery, Calamvale

Detectives are investigating following an armed robbery in Calamvale and an attempted armed robbery in Sunnybank Hills overnight.
At around midnight a woman was driving along Azalea Crescent when a red hatchback stopped in front of her car.
A male passenger and male driver exited the hatchback and produced handguns before demanding the woman’s car and fleeing the scene in both vehicles.
No one was physically injured during the robbery.
The stolen vehicle is described as a silver 2015 Toyota Camry with Queensland registration 850-VVD (similar to pictured).
The men are described as being aged in their 20s or 30s with dark complexions and short dark hair.
The younger man is described as being of a slim build.
Preliminary investigations indicate the same red hatchback may have been involved in a similar incident on The Avenue in Sunnybank Hills at around 11:30pm last night.

Fatal plane crash, Craiglie

Police and emergency services remain at the scene of an ultra-light aircraft crash that occurred at Craiglie near Port Douglas this afternoon.
Initial inquiries indicate shortly before 5.30pm, the aircraft crashed into an airfield on the Captain Cook Highway.
The 66-year-old male pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No one else was injured as a result of the incident.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing with assistance from Recreational Aviation Australia and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Updated – Statement on Constable Peter McAulay condition

The Queensland Police Service has confirmed that Constable Peter McAulay will be moved from Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit to a specialised ward tomorrow after showing encouraging signs of improvement.
Peter is now listed as stable, however will require intensive treatment for critical injuries received at Booval last week.
Thank you very much to the community for your support and well wishes for Peter, his family, friends and colleagues.
At the moment, the focus of family, friends and colleagues is on Peter and his ongoing treatment, we ask that the media respect their privacy at this very difficult time.

Warwick detectives are searching for a man who assaulted a woman at Warwick last night, October 2.
The woman stopped on the side of the road in Rose Street, between Horsman and Hawker roads, at around 6.15pm when her vehicle, a white 1998 Nissan Patrol, broke down.
A man driving a white utility stopped in front of her vehicle and offered to help.
They worked under the bonnet of her vehicle for a short period of time before the woman walked to the rear of her car.

Assault and attempted robbery, Logan Central

Police are appealing to the public for information following investigations into the assault and attempted robbery of a man at Logan Central on Wednesday, May 16.
Just after 1am, the 30-year-old was filling up his tyres at a service station on Wembley Road, when he was approached by two men who were not known to him.
The two men immediately began assaulting the victim, punching him in the head, neck, back, shoulders and chest, whilst demanding his car-keys.
The victim stated he did not have keys on him and the two men continued assaulting him before witnesses intervened, allowing him to jump into his vehicle and flee.
The victim sustained minor facial injuries as a result of the incident.
The two men were last seen leaving the premises on foot.
