A 44-year-old Nobby man has today been charged with six fraud related charges after an investigation into applications made to the Queensland Government’s Drought Relief Assistance Scheme.
Investigators from the Major and Organised Crime Squad Rural (Toowoomba), charged the man with two counts of attempted fraud, two counts of forging documents and two counts of uttering forged documents.
It will be alleged that fraudulent claims were submitted to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries relating to the Transport of Water Freight Subsidy in 2019 in an attempt to claim $16,599 which were not paid.
“Police will continue to work in partnership with other government departments to ensure that the integrity of any scheme designed to support our farmers is maintained and not criminally exploited by a very small number of people,” Detective Inspector Troy Pukallus, Major and Organised Crime Squad (Rural) said.
The man will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on March 25.

UPDATE: PSPA revoked – gas leak, Cairns
Around 1:15pm police lifted the emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) put in place at 11:30am today in relation to a gas leak in Cairns.
Please be advised that the Cairns CBD gas leak situation has now been successfully resolved.

Drug and firearms charges Toowoomba Region
Police have arrested and charged 35 people on 160 drug and firearm charges as part of an operation targeting the supply and distribution of methylamphetamine (ice) in the Toowoomba region.
Commencing in mid-2019, the combined operations involving local police and State Crime Command investigators, culminated in 36 search warrants being issued at properties across Toowoomba on February 7 and 8.
During the searches 15 illegal firearms were seized, including two handguns, seven long-arm rifles and a shortened shotgun along with 175 grams of ice with an approximate street value of $27,000.
Further items seized included knuckledusters, silencers, a pistol crossbow, cash, a Mazda utility and various quantities of LSD, steroids and cannabis.
To date Operations Holt and Instance have resulted in 35 arrests for drug trafficking and firearm offences.

Advice from cyber investigators this Safer Internet Day
This Safer Internet Day, investigators from the State Crime Command’s specialist units dedicated to combating cybercrime are calling on parents and young people to help in the fight against cybercrimes by staying alert to online risks.
In a video launched today, Detective Constable Beti Surman from the Financial and Cyber Crime Group and Detective Inspector Glen Donaldson from Argos, a specialist unit in the Child Abuse and Sexual Crimes Group, share their insights and advice to staying safe online.
Police are warning parents as globally, sexual predators and other criminal offenders are using the internet to target and manipulate children and young people across a range of cybercrimes; from child sexual abuse offences to identity and financial fraud.

Robbery, Kirwan
Police are investigating a robbery at shop in Kirwan yesterday afternoon.
Around 3.05pm, three women entered a liquor store on Bamford Lane, selected some products and attempted to leave without paying.
When the male attendant confronted the women, one of them produced a weapon and threatened him.
The three women fled towards Joyce Street.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police.

Serious traffic crash, Woodstock
Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash in Woodstock yesterday afternoon.
Around 2.30pm on the Flinders Highway, a car travelling south collided with a truck and then collided with another truck.
The driver of the car, a 64-year-old woman from Charters Towers, was transported by helicopter to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition.
The truck drivers were not physically injured.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage to contact police.

Assault charge, Gold Coast
A man has been charged over the serious assault of a man at an Upper Coomera gym last week.
Yesterday, officers from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad executed a search warrant at an Upper Coomera residence locating and arresting a 24-year-old man wanted in connection with the unprovoked assault of a 20 year-old-man at the Days Road gym last Monday.
“Violence within our community will not be tolerated, particularly in a public place, and will be promptly investigated,” Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Galpin, Major and Organised Crime Squad said.
“We have also identified the second suspect, and I encourage that individual to surrender himself to police.”
It will be alleged the male victim was in the open area of the gym, when two men approached him as he was looking at his mobile phone.
One of the men then struck the victim to the head multiple times with a five-kilogram weight.

Robbery charges, Nambour
Sunshine Coast police have charged a 21-year-old man for a range of offences including for two attempted robberies at Nambour last month.
Around 4pm on January 25, the 21-year-old man allegedly approached another man in a carpark of a Nambour shopping centre and threatened him, asking him for the keys to his car. The victim did not comply, and the man walked off.
A short time later, the 21-year-old man approached another man and his girlfriend at the intersection of Sydney and Howard streets and allegedly threatened them, asking for the keys to their car.
The man got in his car to start it while the 21-year-old man allegedly continued his threats. The pair managed to drive off along Sydney Street.

Armed robbery charges, Sunshine Coast
A 23-year-old Beenleigh man will today face 42 charges after being arrested by Sunshine Coast detectives on Friday, February 7.
Around 5am on January 14, a 41-year-old woman was reversing a car out of her residence on Newry Road at Mountain Creek when the man allegedly approached her, threatened her with a gun and stole her vehicle.
The man also allegedly broke into a house on Memorial Drive at Upper Coomera just after 6am on January 23. He was confronted by the residents before allegedly threatening them with a screwdriver, finding a set of keys and stealing a car parked at the address.
On January 27, the man allegedly approached a 46-year-old man who was working on his car outside a Bli Bli Road residence around midnight. The man allegedly threatened the man with a gun before stealing his car.

Armed robbery, Crestmead
Police are investigating the armed robbery of a tobacco store in Crestmead last night.
Around 10.40pm a man entered the Waratah Drive store and threatened the male attendant with a sharp implement and demanded money.
The man moved to behind the counter and removed the till draw containing cash.
He then fled the store and was seen to get into the passenger’s side front seat of a small, dark coloured SUV parked in Quandong Street before the vehicle drove off.
The attendant was not physically injured.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, 175cms tall, dark coloured eyes with a medium build. He was wearing a black balaclava, grey long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.
