PSPA revoked, Cypress Gardens

Police have revoked an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in relation to a dangerous bush fire burning in the vicinity of Cypress Gardens.
The declaration was revoked at 4:01pm on December 5 after emergency services contained the fire.
The PSPA was invoked at 4:42pm on December 4 and the declared zone included Groszman Road to the west, Cypress Avenue to the south and along Nine Mile Road to Antonio Road to the north..   
Local residents have been permitted to return home.
There is significant smoke hazard in the area and people should reconsider the need to travel to area at this time.

Revocation of stand down, State Crime Command

A 53-year-old male Detective Senior Sergeant from the State Crime Command who was stood down earlier this year from official duty with the Queensland Police Service has now been reinstated to perform operational duties.
This officer was stood down on June 11 this year after originally suspended from duty on February 11, 2014 whilst subject to investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).
The officer was the subject of an investigation relating to conducting unauthorised searches on a QPS computer system that were not connected with his official duties and releasing information.
As a result, a criminal prosecution was commenced by the CCC before the Brisbane Magistrates Court, in relation to one charge of Computer Hacking, section 408E of the Criminal Code and two charges of Misconduct in Public Office section 92A of the Criminal Code, which on March 6, 2017 were withdrawn due to “no evidence to offer”.

Armed robbery, Coochin Creek

Detectives have released vision of two men in relation to the armed robbery at a fast food restaurant in Coochin Creek this morning.
Around 1.30am two men pulled up to a restaurant along the Bruce Highway at Coochin Creek in a black coloured utility.
One man entered the restaurant armed with a knife and the other was armed with a baton.
Once inside one of the men confronted a store manager and demanded money before they left the restaurant in the Holden Commodore ute with a small sum of money.
Police believe the utility travelled either south along the Bruce Highway or straight across the overpass towards Glasshouse Mountains on Johnston Road, Beerwah.
Both men are described as wearing dark coloured clothing with a hoodie covering their faces.
Police are appealing for anyone with further information to come forward.

Revocation of stand down, Northern Region

A 29-year-old male constable from the Northern Region stood down from the Queensland Police Service last year has now been returned to duty.
The officer was subject of an investigation in relation to use of excessive force on a suspect in custody.
A charge of common assault preferred against the officer in the Cairns Magistrates Court previously resulted in a finding of not guilty. A disciplinary investigation has been conducted in relation to the alleged conduct.
The matter has now been finalised by way of the officer undertaking a Local Managerial Resolution Plan.
In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct.
This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.

Police officer stood down, Intelligence and Covert Services Command

A 40-year-old female senior constable has been stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service.
The officer was served with a Stand Down Notice regarding allegations of improper access and release of information.

Fraud charges, Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast detectives have charged two people after allegedly conducting a fraudulent scheme on the Sunshine Coast in 2016.
It is alleged the group dishonestly obtained around $900,000 to finance the career of a young Australian singer based in Nashville, without her knowledge.
The pair would allegedly approach individuals through word-of-mouth to seek an investment into the singer’s career in return for regular payments based on her success.
The money obtained was allegedly used to make small payments to others within the investment scheme.
Six people have provided information to police which led to the arrest of a man and a woman on December 2.
A 41-year-old woman and 44-year-old man, both Mount Coolum residents, were charged with five counts each of fraud.
They are both due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 6, 2020.
Investigators believe more people have been targeted by the group and are urging them to come forward to police.

Operation Quebec Harrow closure

Officers have closed Operation Quebec Harrow which targeted drug use throughout Cloncurry and Mount Isa since August 2018.
The operation was carried out in two phases to disrupt the trafficking of dangerous drugs throughout the area.
Following a protracted investigation, police seized a vehicle in October this year which led to a around ten warrants being executed in late November.
A further 31 search warrants were executed around Mount Isa and Cloncurry over a two-day period earlier this week.
As a result of this operation, 79 people are now facing a total of 196 charges, including seven people charged with trafficking dangerous drugs.
Methylamphetamine with a street value of $320,000 was seized by police, as well as a quantity of cannabis, steroids and cash.
This operation was a cooperative effort between the Criminal Investigation Branches from Cloncurry and Mount Isa and the Major and Organised Crime Squads from Cloncurry and Townsville. They were assisted by officers

Fatal traffic crash, Mackay

A 57-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle crash north of Mackay today.
Initial investigations indicate the man was travelling north on the Bruce Highway around 3pm, when his Toyota Hilux crashed into a caravan travelling in the opposite direction.
Police and emergency services attended, however the man died at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The three people travelling with the caravan were not physically injured.
Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing with officers appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.

PSPA declaration, Cypress Gardens

Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act due to a dangerous bush fire burning in the vicinity of Cypress Gardens.
The exclusion zone is bound by Groszman Road to the west, Cypress Avenue to the south and along Nine Mile Road to Antonio Road to the north.
Residents within the exclusion zone are urged to follow the advice of emergency services on the ground.
An Evacuation Centre has been established at Millmerran Community Cultural Centre at 42 Wapole Street.
The Gore Highway is closed between the BP at Captains Mountain and Cypress Gardens.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

Serious assault, Seaforth

A 45-year-old man has been charged following the alleged serious assault of a man at a Seaforth caravan park this morning.
It will be alleged around 3am the two men were involved in a physical altercation, when one of the men sustained multiple stab wounds from a knife.
The 48-year-old Sunshine Coast man was taken to the Mackay Base Hospital with head, chest and back injuries in a serious but stable condition.
The 45-year-old has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
He is due to face a Mackay Magistrates Court this afternoon.
