Fatal hit and run, Geham

Police are investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred in Geham near Toowoomba yesterday evening (January 23).
Initial investigations indicate that around 8.40pm, an 18-year-old Geham man was walking along the New England Highway near the intersection with Reushle Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.
A short time later, a motorist travelling southbound on the New England Highway discovered the man deceased and contacted emergency services.
Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant dash-cam footage to contact police.
Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Armed robbery and burglaries, Wide Bay – now located

Update 24/1/2020 – Police have arrested the man and woman. The below media release has been edited to remove images and names
Detectives investigating the armed robbery of a Tiaro cafe and a series of thefts across Wide Bay in the past month are appealing for public assistance.
On Thursday, January 16, a man threatened staff with a knife before stealing cash from a cafe on Mayne Street in Tiaro.
Around 9pm last night, a man confronted the 29-year-old male driver of a vehicle which was reversing out of a driveway on Ward Street in Maryborough. He tried to force the man from the vehicle, however, the victim fought back and the man fled.
It is believed the same man is also linked to multiple other property offences including vehicle thefts in Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

Armed robbery of vehicle, Redcliffe

Moreton detectives investigating an armed robbery at Redcliffe in which a car was stolen from a carpark at knifepoint, and the attempted theft of a parked car shortly before, have released CCTV.
Around 8.15pm on Monday, January 6 a woman driving a blue sedan pulled over to the side of the road in Landsborough Avenue, Scarborough. A vehicle following behind her stops and a man exits the vehicle and approaches the driver’s side door of the blue sedan.
He attempts to open the locked driver’s door and runs back to his vehicle, which has now driven past the parked blue sedan, jumping back into the passenger seat and the vehicle speeds off.

New police facility in Arundel officially opens

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll today joined Minister for Police Mark Ryan to officially open the brand-new Arundel Police Hub.

Commissioner Carroll said the new facility was a state-of-the-art, modern building.
“This is an exciting moment for the Gold Coast District, as the new facility is designed to support police operations across the region,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“The new complex includes a dayroom with 104 workstations and a purpose-built Dog Squad facility.
“Various operational areas will be located within the facility, including the Gold Coast Rapid Action Patrol Group (RAP).”

Dangerous driving incident, Mackay

A 27-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries following the dangerous operation of a vehicle, pursuit and crash at Mackay this morning.
Shortly before 5.30am, officers responded to reports of a person slumped over the wheel of a maroon SUV parked in Maguire Street, Andergrove.
As they approached the vehicle, the driver started it and accelerated away, ramming a police vehicle.
A tyre deflation device was deployed nearby and proved successful, however the vehicle continued travelling along a number of roads at excessive speeds through Andergrove, towards the Harbour, Mount Bassett then back onto River Street through Mackay.
The vehicle then turned from Shakespeare into Milton when it struck a truck and rolled.
The driver of the SUV was taken into custody and transported to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.
The truck driver was not physically injured.
Two officers sustained minor cuts during the incident.
Investigations are continuing.

Update: Break and enter with violence, Coorparoo

Police have charged a man following an alleged break and enter involving the theft of two vehicles at Coorparoo on January 16.
Around 12am, it will be alleged three men armed with knives and an iron bar entered an address in Buena Vista Avenue and assaulted a 43-year-old man, who was treated at the scene for a minor back injury. The men allegedly fled the scene with cash, property and two vehicles.
A 22-year-old Nambour man has been charged with armed robbery; entering a dwelling with intent at night, threatening violence, armed; stealing; entering a dwelling with intent at night; and armed robbery. He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
Investigations are ongoing.

Update: Wounding, Robina

Police have charged a 14-year-old boy following an alleged wounding at Robina on Thursday, January 16.
Around 5:30pm, a 13-year-old was with a group of friends at a shopping centre on Robina Town Centre Drive when they were approached by another group of males.
A physical altercation took place between the two groups in parkland off Arbour Lane.
The 14-year-old allegedly slashed the 13-year-old boy with a knife, which caused him to fall to the ground.
The teenager allegedly continued to assault him and has since been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing a drug utensil, unauthorised dealing with shop goods and obstructing a police officer.
He is due to appear in Southport Childrens Court later this month.

Wounding, Varsity Lakes

Police have commenced an investigation after a man was stabbed while travelling on a bus along Yodelay Street tonight.
Around 6pm, a 20-year-old man was approached by another man who made demands and threatened him.
An altercation has taken place and the 20-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the upper body and head with a knife.
The man then fled from the bus with the victim’s backpack, south along Yodelay Street.
The 20-year-old Palm Beach man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No one else was physically injured.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or anything suspicious in the area at the time are urged to contact police.

Townsville graduation ceremony welcomes new police to the Service

Deputy Commissioner Tracy Linford has welcomed 44 new officers to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) at a graduation ceremony held at the Murray Sports Complex in Townsville.
Forty-two recruits will now join the QPS as First Year Constables
Following six months of intense training at the QPS Academy, the latest round of recruits will now join the service as First Year Constables.
Deputy Commissioner Linford said the new constables would initially be deployed in the Northern, Central, South Eastern and Brisbane regions.

“The majority of the new officers will be based here in North Queensland and in Central Queensland, to meet the needs of the community,” Deputy Commissioner Linford said.
“It is always an exciting moment to watch new police officially join the service and start their duty to keep Queensland safe and secure.”

Dangerous driving and dangerous conduct with a weapon charges, Harristown

Toowoomba detectives have a charged a man with several offences after a firearm was allegedly discharged into a Harristown street on Saturday afternoon (January 18).
It will be alleged a man attended a Drayton Road, Harristown residence around 1pm where he was involved in an altercation with occupants of the address, three women and one man, all known to him.
The man was allegedly holding a firearm and made threats towards the occupants before discharging the firearm in the direction of the footpath. No one was injured.
He then fled in a vehicle which was intercepted by two detectives on Buckland Street, Harristown at around 3.20pm.
Police approached the vehicle and spoke to the male driver and male passenger before the driver accelerated away, temporarily trapping both detectives by their arms.
The officers were carried for several meters before they both managed to free themselves.
The vehicle was later found abandoned in nearby Warwick Street with
