Serious assault police, Townsville

Police have charged a 35-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted a female constable in Kirwan last night.
It will be alleged around 7.50pm, police were responding to reports of a street disturbance on President Street when several people became aggressive towards officers.
While police were arresting a man, he allegedly struck a 21-year-old female constable in the jaw.
The officer sustained bruising and was treated at Townsville Hospital.
The 35-year-old man was charged with one count each of serious assault police, obstruct police and public nuisance.
He is expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Redbank Plains

Police have charged a 48-year-old male driver after a vehicle crashed into a house at Redbank Plains overnight.
It will be alleged around 1.15am the utility ploughed into the Laurel Street residence causing significant damage.
Neither the driver nor the female resident were injured during the incident.
The Redbank Plains man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving under the influence of liquor.
He is expected to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 19.

Greyhound trainer faces 70 serious drug and fraud offences

A 44-year-old Greyhound Trainer is facing 70 serious drug and fraud offences relating to the greyhound racing industry.
The Queensland Racing Crime Squad (QRCS) will allege the Camira man doped his greyhounds with methylamphetamine to gain a race day advantage and win prize or wagering money.
Queensland Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett said that apart from this greyhound trainer allegedly cheating to gain obvious advantage the alleged administration of drugs that are completely foreign to the greyhounds concerned is an animal welfare disgrace.
“These alleged offences are shocking, amounting to the deliberate manipulation of greyhound racing outcomes and while it is illegal, it is also dangerous to the animals involved,” he said.
“Activities such as these bring the integrity of the racing industry into disrepute and must be stamped out.
“I commend the efforts of the Commission’s staff including the Integrity Investigations Team and stewards in bringing this to the QRCS resulting in this arrest.”

Assault, Buddina

Police have released vision of a man they wish to speak with following the assault of a 15-year-old boy at a Sunshine Coast shopping centre on September 24.
At around 2.40pm the boy was walking with friends through the centre on Point Cartwright Drive when he was approached by a man unknown to him who began making threats, telling him to move out of the way.
The man then pushed the victim over before slapping him across the face and walking away.
The boy suffered a minor injury to his mouth as a result of the incident.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 182cm tall, aged in his 40s or 50s with grey hair and tattoos on arms and leg.
Police are appealing for anyone who may recognise the man or have further information to come forward.

Dangerous driving charge, Swanbank

A woman has been charged after two police cars were allegedly rammed at Swanbank near Ipswich overnight.
It will be alleged around 11.50pm last night officers intercepted a vehicle which was stopped on East Owen Street.
As police approached to speak with the driver, the vehicle allegedly reversed at speed, forcing the officers to take evasive action as it struck a police car parked behind.
The vehicle then allegedly sped forward, collided with a door on another police vehicle and attempted to flee through bushland before crashing into trees, becoming stuck.
A male passenger fled from the vehicle while the alleged driver, a 32-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene.
A subsequent search of the car uncovered a quantity of drugs and utensils.
The Ipswich woman has since been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving unlicensed and two counts of possession of utensils.
She is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 1.

Fatal traffic crash, Bray Park

A single vehicle crash at Bray Park last night claimed the life of a man and left three other people hospitalised with life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate a vehicle was travelling west on Samsonvale Road at around 11.35pm when it left the roadway, mounted the gutter and collided with a large tree.
A 23-year-old man from Windsor was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Three other people in the car – two men and a woman, all from Brisbane and aged 19, 22 and 22- sustained critical injuries and were transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.

Dangerous driving charge, Caboolture

A 19-year-old Morayfield man has been denied police bail and will appear in the Kingaroy Magistrates Court today facing 11 charges including dangerous driving, driving under the influence of liquor or a drug and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
A police patrol spotted an alleged stolen vehicle on Paradise Road, Morayfield around 7.20pm last night (September 28).
The vehicle failed to stop for police and a tyre deflation device (stingers) was successfully deployed in Paradise Road.
The car, now with a deflated front tyre, continued travelling streets in the local area with its movements relayed to police on the ground by Polair2.
A police pursuit was commenced in Caboolture with the vehicle stopping in King Street after the driver clipped a road sign and a council garden bed at around 7.35pm.
The male driver was arrested at the scene and transported to hospital for assessment before being taken to the watch house.

Police pause to remember fallen colleagues

Marching in remembrance of those who served with honour.
Police Commissioner Ian Stewart and Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, The Hon. Mark Ryan MP paused to pay tribute to the 147 fallen Queensland Police Service officers on the eve of National Police Remembrance Day.
At a service held at Saint John’s Cathedral in Brisbane, Commissioner Stewart said it was an important day to honour and remember the police officers whose lives had been lost while performing their duties.
“No greater sacrifice can be asked for, or can be made, than that of these fine men and women who we acknowledge today,” Commissioner Stewart said.

Police busy preparing for Riverfire 2018

Police are busy preparing to ensure one of Brisbane’s biggest events, Riverfire, is safe and secure for everyone heading out to watch the fireworks spectacle.
Superintendent Virginia Nelson, the Riverfire Commander, said that around half a million people were expected to line the riverbanks for the celebration.
“We are well-versed in planning and preparing for major events, and Riverfire is no exception,” Superintendent Nelson said.
“We will have extra police on patrol throughout the city, South Bank, Kangaroo Point and other vantage points across Brisbane.
“I am urging everyone coming into the city tomorrow to allow extra travel time, remembering that major road and bridge closures will come into effect from Saturday afternoon. Public transport will be your best option.
“Riverfire spectators should also drink responsibily and only within designated areas.
“Everyone heading to Southbank should be aware that it will be fenced off and drinking alcohol there is not permitted.

Fatal traffic incident, Septimus

A 1-year-old boy struck by a vehicle has died on property near Mackay this morning.
Just before 7am, the boy was near the rear of house at a rural property on Head Menkins Road when he was hit by the utility.
First aid was administered to the child, however he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
